Vintage 2004

In the middle ages the Champagne wines naturally had a little effervescence to them, as they were ephemeral.

From year to year, we have aimed to improve our bottle’s quality and corking process to prevent multiples losses.
During the year 1685, vintners started using corks, which allowed only a high pressure inside the bottle.
At that time, Dom Perignon, used a hemp string to tie the corks to the bottles.

img-Domperignon The strings weren’t treated so there was a question to that method.
It was the Royal Order of 1735 which officially gave birth to the Champagne bottle and stipulated that the corking had to be made of 3 hemp strings intertwisted into crosswise over the bottle’s cork.

img-antan01In 1748, it was recommended to soak the string ball into linseed oil.

The tying process became hard and displeasing work: having to apply strength while holding the bottle between legs, just to hand tie.
Later, machines helped tighten the knots.

An old and unique bottle tying method had finally disappeared, after more than a century of practice.
Such is the pride of our yesteryear vintage to relive and share this method through the times.

An exceptional Champagne, elegant and refined to fully enjoy among all who partake!
